Freeze Pops and Fiction happening again Thursday

GREENFIELD — Greenfield Public Library’s Teen Librarian Francesca Passiglia invites patrons to join her on the library’s front lawn for Freeze Pops and Fiction on Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The event was also held Tuesday.

According to a Greenfield Public Library press release, the event will include stories from Circle Round, the WBUR storytelling podcast for children, and of course, freeze pops. Attendees are welcome to bring a blanket or beach towel.

This event is weather dependent.

Historical Society holding ice cream social

GREENFIELD — The Historical Society of Greenfield will hold a free ice cream social on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at 143 Church St.

“As we couldn’t do this last year, this is the first time since 2019 that we’ve been able to resume this event,” said Tilda Hunting, president of the Historical Society of Greenfield.

All are welcome. The event will be held rain or shine.

Free virtual songfest planned for Thursday

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Public Library welcomes Judy Cook for a free virtual songfest on Thursday at 7 p.m. The program will include songs for adults about animals, from pets to pests.

According to a Greenfield Public Library press release, Cook sang in the Girl Scouts, at Oberlin College and with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington. She has been actively touring since 1998.

Monthly brown bag distribution set for Thursday

GREENFIELD — The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ monthly brown bag program for qualifying seniors will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Greenfield Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St.

According to a notice from Senior Center Activities Director Kathy Dunn, seniors who receive fuel assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or other benefits will qualify. To apply, call the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts at 413-247-9738. Applications are also on hand at the Senior Center.

Senior Center offering film screenings

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Senior Center at 35 Pleasant St. is offering several movie matinees this month.

Space is limited to eight attendees per day. To reserve a seat, call 413-772-1517, ext. 0, or stop by the Senior Center’s front desk. Advance registration and a Senior Center membership is required.

The following screenings all start at 1 p.m.

■Aug. 6: “Beyond the Sea”

■Aug. 9 and 13: “Richard Jewell”

■Aug. 16 and 20: “Judy”

■Aug. 23, 27 and 30: “Downton Abbey”
